And Why Do I Want This Job?

About 6 months ago I was interviewing a candidate for an asset management position. During the interview the candidate informed me that he did not like writing, did not want to sit at a desk running a lot of numbers, and found financial reporting to be boring. I asked him why he was interviewing for this position and he told me because it paid well. Don’t interview for jobs that you don’t understand the primary duties and responsibilities to succeed at those jobs. I recommend that you meet with at least two people who have the same job title as the one for which you are interviewing (at different companies) and learn as much as you can about what they do on a day-to-day basis. If it sounds exciting to you and you think that you have the skill set to do that job, go for it!
